Flamenco Guitar Lessons & Workshops

I have a passion for music education and for spreading awareness and increasing understanding of Flamenco music.
I bring my over 10 years of teaching experience to every class, drawing from the lessons I learned in Spain as well as my own insights into both music in general and Flamenco in particular.
As a non-Spaniard Flamenco guitarist, I have a deep understanding of the problems faced by students when approaching this music.
I specialise in demystifying music and I especially enjoy demystifying Flamenco. Because of this, my teaching takes a  no-nonsense approach;
You won’t hear anything about having ‘Spanish blood’, ‘Gypsy blood’, or any other blood for that matter.
What you will hear about is practice, dedication, a methodical approach to developing technique and improving musicality.
And what’s more, having fun while doing it!

Teaching Formats

One on One Classes

I give private Flamenco Guitar classes in my home in Co.Kildare.
From the beginner to the professional player, I develop in my students a strong basis in technique as well as understanding the fundamentals that make up Flamenco music.

  • Timing & Rhythm
  • Flamenco Compás & Accompaniment
  • Right Hand Technique(Rasgueados, Pulgar, Alzapua, Arpeggio, Picado)
  • Left Hand Technique(Ligados, position and pressure, economy of motion)
  • Falsetas of the Masters(Paco de Lucia, Tomatito, Moraito..)
  • Traditional and Contemporary Flamenco style and harmony
  • Composition
  • Music Theory

Online Lessons

After many requests from people abroad, I am now doing online lessons.

The topics covered are identical to those covered in the private classes.

Resources are available to online students such as video examples of the material covered in class as well as access to the private students area of my website where one can find transcriptions, exercises & videos to work on.

Flamenco Guitar Workshops & Masterclasses

I regularly do Workshops/Masterclasses for Flamenco guitarists and/or enthusiasts.
These workshops can be arranged as part of a performance booking, usually taking place before the concert. Alternatively, if you are interested in arranging/attending one of my workshops please use the form below to get in touch.

Workshops can cater from beginners to advanced.
The format is flexible, whether being a general overview of Flamenco suitable to those without much experience or more specific workshops for those who are already playing Flamenco

Workshops/Masterclasses can cover:

  • Right & Left Hand position & technique.
  • Techniques particular to the style; Picado, Rasqueado, Alzapúa…
  • Flamenco Rhythm(Compás), phrasing and accentation.
  • A range of different Flamenco forms(Palos) including Solea, Alegrias, Bulerias, Tangos etc
  • Scales, Modes & Arpeggios
  • Traditional flamenco harmony
  • Modern scale & chord harmony as applied to Flamenco
  • Compas & Falseta examples in each style
  • I also demonstrate my own approach to Flamenco composition with examples in each palo covered from one of my compositions

All my flamenco students have access to the Students Area of my website where you they can download PDF’s and view videos of the material covered in class.
